scooter season ftw

scooter season!

Took the scoot out for a few errands around the East Side, tail end feels a bit sloppy and will check it out later. It will probably be something I can’t figure out, so I’ll have to take it in to JavaSpeed and catch up with my slackass scooterati.

Scooter Commuters in the Providence Journal

High Gas Prices Told to Go Scoot | The Providence Journal | Local News:

Scooter commuter Emory Lundberg, of Providence, said he gases his ride about once a week. Lots of people buy gas once a week, but how many are satisfied with $4 of unleaded per fill-up? Lundberg’s scooter squeezes a gallon of gas for about 85 miles, he said.

Great coverage for Javaspeed Scooters in the Providence Journal tonight/tomorrow.

Ever-so-slight mis-quote there; I get around 85 miles for 1.5 gallons, if I’m really gentle to my scoot. Truth is I usually really let ‘er have it most of the time and thus mileage goes down a bit. I do laugh every time I see an SUV pull up to get gas next to me though. Sometimes it is hard not to be smug when the poor guy is banging his head against the fuel door of his Ford Drinksalot.

After a quick bite at the coffee bar, Lundberg pulled his helmet on, then drove his scooter into North Main traffic, traveling alongside a full-sized pickup truck that gets around 16 miles per gallon.

Be careful out there.

Mike Scott: keeping it real since around 2001 or so.

Sorry I yelled so loud, but I was just so damned impressed.

Flickr for Scooters

There is much in the way of scooter pornography on Flickr, thanks to the scooters cluster.

It is a nice thing to drop in your RSS reader to remind you that you could be scooting right now.

Scooter Videos on Google Video

My favorite so far, but not even close to the tip of the iceberg.

Google video has more, but you have to weed through some absolutely weird family videos of kids on foot-”scooters”. Boo.

Experimental Scooter Calendar Online

I was frustrated that none of the rally calendars out there supported webcal or even RSS for updates. This prompted me to check into a better way for the purposes of experimentation. The beta calendar is online now and I’m trying to think what could be done with it.

What I’m thinking is that I should just put it on its own vhost (scooters.hellyeah.com?) and let people get access to publish their own clubs’ events via webcal. Sound reasonable? Good? Bad?

I don’t know.

Right now the only data in there are things I assembled personally from various sources for Rallies and events in the New England area (RI, CT, MA, NH, VT, ME).

UPDATE: it now has a vhost, scoot.hellyeah.com.
